Confrontare la differenza tra stile diretto e indiretto:
Stile diretto:
He said: " I don't want to go home yet".
Stile indiretto o discorso repotted:
He said (that) he didn't want to go home yet.
- In stile indiretto… e ' facoltativo. Se è incluso, la registrazione è un po ' più formale che se viene omesso.
- Quando verbi come say, ask, tell, etc.. (reporting verbs) sono al passato, cambia il tempo del resto della frase nello stile indiretto. L'eccezione si verifica quando parliamo di qualcosa che ha ancora validità nel presente:
-They told me: "Water boils at 100 degrees" ---- They told me (that) water boils at 100 degrees.
- She said: "He has to work all weekend" ----She said (that) he had to work all weekend.

Reporting verbs:
- Verbo + (that): say, claim, explain, insist, agree, complain, deny, reply.
- Verbo + pronombre objeto + (that): tell (She told me that...)
- Verbo + infinitivo con - to: offer, refuse, agree, promise...
- Verbo + for + verbo (-ing): apologise, thank
Espressioni che cambiano in stile indiretto:
- Tomorrow - the next day/ the following day
- Today - that day
- Yesterday - the day before / the previous day
- Next week - the following week
- Last week - the week before / the previous week
- Now - then
- Here - there
- This week - that week

- I don't know YOU - She said she didn't like ME
- WE are late - He said THEY were late
Cambiamenti nei pronomi possessivi
- That's not MY book - He said that wasn't HIS book.
Peticiones e imperativos en estilo indirecto: (not) to + infinitivo
- "Shut up" - He asked me TO shut up.
- "Don't open that window" - He ordered them NOT TO open that window.
Domande in stile indiretto
-Quando si passa dallo stile diretto a quello indiretto, le domande hanno l'ordine SOGGETTO + VERBO. C'è una differenza tra due tipi di domande
*Domande con parola interrogativa (what, who, where, etc):
He asked: "Where are you?" - He asked me WHERE I was
*Domande la cui risposta è sì o no (senza parola interrogativa).
She asked: are you OK? - She asked me IF/WHETHER I was OK.
